Press Release: Jenn Alcorn Unveils Comprehensive Campaign Priorities for Frederick County’s Future

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

March 6, 2026

FREDERICK, MD — Jenn Alcorn, candidate for County Council – District 1 in Frederick County, today announced a comprehensive set of priorities focused on responsible growth, strong schools, agricultural sustainability, tax relief, and thoughtful leadership on issues like data centers. She will focus on delivering balanced, fiscally responsible policies that protect taxpayers, strengthen families, preserve rural character, and ensure long-term economic stability for the entire county.

“I’ve spent the past few months since announcing my candidacy in September gathering input and developing a thoughtful, comprehensive plan.” said Jenn Alcorn. “District 1 cannot be defined by a single issue. Families are concerned with their children’s education, rising property taxes and energy costs, access to mental health care, infrastructure that keeps pace with growth, and maintaining the collaborative spirit that makes our county strong. My campaign is grounded in listening carefully and responding to the real, everyday challenges our residents face.”

A Community-Driven Agenda

After months of listening to residents and attending workshops and focus groups across the district, Alcorn’s plan centers on:

· Delivering property tax relief by responsibly expanding the commercial tax base while considering residents’ concerns over issues like data centers

· Investing in education, including support for a new Brunswick High School, competitive teacher pay, and expanded student capacity for the Career & Technology Center

· Protecting agriculture and preserving rural character

· Making sure our infrastructure keeps pace with growth — including securing funding for a new water treatment facility to serve Middletown

· Strengthening access to mental health services and human services support

· Promoting civility and collaboration in local government

Responsible Leadership on Data Centers

Alcorn emphasized a balanced, fact-based approach to data centers. She highlighted that the Quantum Frederick campus has already generated ~$55 million in county revenue, including $12.5 million for agricultural preservation, protecting roughly 1,500 acres of farmland. At full buildout, it is projected to yield $215 million annually in real estate tax revenue and support thousands of jobs.

“With roughly 70% of our tax income coming from residential, we must responsibly expand our commercial base to ease the burden on working families, seniors on fixed incomes, and homeowners,” Alcorn said. “Sustainable revenue is essential to fund schools, public safety, and infrastructure.”

Alcorn pointed to the reality that one-third of local families fall into the ALICE category, Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed, and more than 20% of residents are seniors. “We cannot ignore the need for revenue to fund schools, public safety, and infrastructure while easing the burden on homeowners,” she said.

Protecting Agriculture and Rural Character

Alcorn reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening agricultural preservation efforts and supporting farm profitability through agribusiness expansion, diversification initiatives, and long-term conservation investments.

“Agriculture is central to our identity and economy,” she said. “Preservation must go hand-in-hand with policies that ensure farm families can remain financially sustainable for generations to come.”

Civility and Collaboration

Alcorn called for respectful, fact-based public discourse. “Healthy debate is essential. Personal attacks are not. Frederick deserves leadership grounded in facts, transparency, and civility.”

Alcorn pledged to continue listening and engaging with residents across District 1. “I will continue to listen. I will continue to lead thoughtfully. And I will continue focusing on the full range of issues that matter to our community.”
